These are the methods I used to teach my daughter.
Yes, I seriously used School House Rock to teach multiplication. I purchased the DVD's and played them in my car for about a year. You can purchase the videos for your car dvd player, or you can watch the videos for free online.
In addition to this, I used certain tricks that helped them multiply larger numbers that they had not memorized.

Teach Multiplication at Multiplication.com
Multiplication.com is a great website for kids just learning or struggling to learn multiplication facts.

I have found that multiplication is the source of all math problems. If a child is having problems with division, fractions, or any higher math function, I can almost always be traced back to issues with multiplication. Take your time teaching multiplication, taking the entire year if need be. They will move faster through later concepts once they are experts at multiplying.
